LEARNING TO GIVE BACK
The Feeding His Little Lambs program is run through Christ in Veneta, Irene Devereaux and Merna Koerschgen lead the program. It was started in 2015 when Pastor Barringer was approached by the superintendent of the Fern Ridge School District. The staff was concerned with several children that were returning on Mondays to school, famished; having had very little to eat over the weekend. A weekend backpack food program was started. On average there are about 14 families, which remain anonymous to us, only the office staff know to whom the bags are given. Non-perishable food items are distributed to the families on Wednesday, to supplement their nourishment on the weekends. I had heard that one of the little girls said that "Everything in there is my favorite!" Irene and Merna do a good job at making sure it is as nutritious as possible, given the confines of the non-perishable and mainly pre-packaged food.
